Recharge

Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland has the most boring dog run I've ever seen in the Bay Area, but the surrounding forest area? Amazing. Just the kind of natural boost I needed to plug through some more work on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Bowdu obviously enjoyed it too. He got to bring home a lovely eucalyptus perfume on his back. I'm so glad he didn't scent roll in bird shit or dead squirrel.

Does he similarly look back over his shoulder at you to say "Yes, do admire my ASS."

I was actually reminded of an incident in the archives last week, when I was flipping through a bunch of old Chinese pictorial journals. Every week, right on the inside at about page 3 or 4, there would be a requisite "art photo" which was most often a nude of a European woman. Always a female nude, predictably enough.

So I'm flipping along, paging through week after week, trying to get a sense for the themes covered in this journal, when alluvasudden I get to one issue and where the female nude usually is, there's a picture of a cat, paused in what appears to be mid-grooming. Its back is to the photographer, one leg is kicked up in the air, and the cat is looking back over its shoulder in the manner of one of those classic reclined nudes. The caption said simply "PUSSY." (It was a bilingual English/Chinese paper.) I don't know if the double entendre was widely used back then. I couldn't help but giggle a little, as silly and adolescent was the moment.

Hehe Bowdu bottom~~

Random time to ask, but do you have any tips on getting good deals on low-rider bikes like the one you had way back when I visited you at umich? Assuming they're used, etc... My friend here in the NY bayside area is looking to get one. :3

They're all over eBay, and it's actually possible to get some good deals for around $100-$125, including shipping. You want to figure in about $40+ for shipping, but depending on what you can snatch up, it could be well worth it. Lots of bikes go for "local pickup only" on eBay as well. Anyway, that's for, say, an original Schwinn frame in nice condition. The wheels, fenders, seat, handlebars, chain, etc. might not be in such great condition and will need to be either scrubbed up and/or replaced. If your friend wants to trick it out or such, the parts are going to cost more, but again, eBay is the place to start.

Other than that, there's Craigslist, local bike fairs, etc. Everything is pretty easily to find on the internet these days, but that also means that it's harder to score lucky deals -- you end up paying about what you *should* be paying, I guess. If you're looking for deals, it really is about picking through local garage sales and flea markets. You might come across a suitable frame that someone is letting go for like $25 or something. There was a fully-assembled Fair Lady, ready to go, at the local flea market. The guy was asking $75. I said $50. He said $55. I walked away from that one, because it wasn't exactly what I wanted at the time anyway, but in retrospect that was a really good deal.
